ABOUT PBIS

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

It is a process which focuses on improving our school's ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. PBIS includes school-wide methods and practices intended for all students and staff in all settings. It is a team-based process for systematic problem solving, planning, and assessment. This approach creates a safe and productive learning environment for teachers and students with few disruptions.

How Does It Work?

A PBIS school teaches the expectations to all students and provides frequent opportunities to practice.

A PBIS school provides a consistent, predictable, and fair use of consequences for all students.

Last year we adopted and will continue to use a unified set of school rules based on four Sunrise Stinger Behavior Expectations- respect, honesty, kindness and responsibility. These will be reinforced and consistent throughout all school environments including: hallways, playground, lunch room, bathrooms, and the classroom.   You will see these expectations posted throughout the school.  Your child will be learning them during his or her first days at school and refreshed throughout the school year. Our unified school-wide Stinger Behavior Expectations are as follows:
Expectation  #1: Bee Respectful
Expectation  #2: Bee Honest
Expectation  #3: Bee Responsible
Expectation  #4: Bee Kind

To help students increase and maintain positive expected behaviors, we will implement the following:
      Classroom Lessons that frequently teach and reinforce our school-wide Stinger expectations
      Recognize the expected positive behaviors with immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback through “Bee” tickets, individual, classroom and school-wide incentives.
There is a consequence system in place if a student frequently demonstrates poor behavior choices. This could include the following options:
- Parent contact
- Individual or group instruction (reteach expected behavior)
- Follow-up agreement with principal

If you have questions about Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. We look forward to a wonderful year of teaching your child. We appreciate your support and involvement.
